Downloading, Installing and Activating a Teacup
Software Plug-in
Does Teacup offer plug-ins for both Macintosh and Windows?
Yes, Teacup offers plug-ins for both Mac and Windows platforms and both have
identical functionality. To download, please visit our website
product pages and on the download link you will see two options, one
for Macs and one for Windows.
What format does a Teacup plug-in come in?
Teacup Software is entirely Internet based. There is only one version of the
software, a demo version that is unlocked into the full version using
an serial number that comes with a purchase. The serial number will
work on either a Windows or Mac platform and is valid for one machine only.
How do I activate my Teacup plug-in?
If you purchased your product through our web store, you will need to activate
your plug-in using the serial number you received after the purchase was
completed. If you purchased this product from within the application,
your product is already activated, but you should keep the serial number
anyway, in case you ever need to re-activate the product (if you have to
reinstall your operating system, for example).
To activate the plug-in, you will need to enter your serial number into the
demonstration version of the software. The demonstration version will then
become the full working version. The demonstration version can be
downloaded from our website. If you ordered
multiple copies, this single serial number is all you will need -- it will work
for as many copies as you purchased.
-
Start InDesign with the plug-in loaded.
-
Select Help --> Activate Teacup Plug-In --> Activate [plug-in name]...
This will bring up the activation dialog box.
-
Copy the serial number and paste it into the "Activation key" section of
the dialog.
- Press the "Activate Automatically" button. Do not press
return -- this will cause the Cancel button to be pressed.
-
After activating, you should get a message saying that activation was
successful. Your plug-in will now be unlocked and ready to use.
How do I uninstall my Teacup plug-in?
-
Quit InDesign.
- In a Finder or Explorer window, navigate to the directory
where InDesign is installed.
-
In the InDesign directory, there should be a folder named "Plug-ins"
-
Somewhere in the Plug-ins folder, typically in a folder called "Teacup", you
will find our plug-ins.
-
Move those plug-ins outside of the "Plug-ins" folder or delete them.
-
Restart InDesign.
I would like to try one of your plug-ins before purchasing. Do you offer demo versions of your software?
Yes, we offer a free, fully functional twenty-day demo for all of our software.
Please click here for more information.
My Teacup plug-in evaluation version has expired, can I download the same version again?
Once a plug-in's evaluation version has expired it cannot be downloaded again to
the same machine. The best option is to download the demo on a different
machine.
What is the best browser to use when downloading a Teacup plug-in?
Safari or Firefox seem to be the best option when downloading Teacup products on
the Macintosh. Internet Explorer and Firefox have been tested on the
Windows platform.
Can I deactivate a Teacup plug-in license on one machine and move it to another?
Please contact Teacup Software at support@teacupsoftware.com
in this case and we will help you get uninterrupted use of your plug-in.
I have customer support questions about my plug-in. Who can I contact?

General questions specific to the items you ordered
I used a Teacup plug-in when creating my document. Can other people open my document if they do not have the same plug-in installed?
Yes. It is not necessary for anyone to have the plug-in in order to view a
document that was modified with the plug-in. This is true for all Teacup
Software products.
I was using Adobe InDesign CS and just switched to CS2. Do I need to upgrade my Teacup plug-in?
No, all of Teacup's plug-ins work for both CS and CS-2 under the same
license. If you've activated on a specific machine for CS-1, you should
install the CS-2 plug-in and it will be activated and ready to go. Visit
our site for the downloads.
I was using Adobe
InDesign CS or CS2, and I just switched to CS3. Do I need to
upgrade my Teacup plug-in?
A paid upgrade is required from CS/CS2 to CS3. To upgrade your Teacup
plug-in, click here.
I just purchased a CS3 plug-in for my
Mac, and after activating, the splash screen doesn't say that it's
activated. It seems to still be in demo mode. What's going on?
eSellerate, the company that provides the libraries that handles purchasing and
activation for Teacup, released a version of its Macintosh framework with a bug
that caused this problem, and we had that framework in our plug-ins from June
11, 2007 to July 13, 2007. To fix the problem, we needed to go back to an
older version of the library in our plug-ins. So if you have a CS3 Tecup
plug-in with a creation date between those dates, you'll need to follow these
steps.
-
Download two files -- the latest installer for the plug-in, which can be found
on the product page for that plug-in, and an AppleScript, which can be
found here.
-
Quit InDesign CS3.
-
Run the AppleScript. The AppleScript removes the bad
eSellerate libraries from your machine.
-
Run the plug-in installer to install the latest build.
-
Restart InDesign CS3 and re-activate the plug-in.
-
Please note that you should remove all Teacup plug-ins created between June 11,
2007 and July 13, 2007 to make sure this problem is fixed.
I'd like to see my order number/serial number/order information. Where is it?
If you ordered through our webstore, you can see your order information here. If you ordered via purchaso order, please contact support@teacupsoftware.com. If you ordered through a reseller, please contact your reseller for order information.
BarcodeMaker
Do I have to download PatternMaker in order for BarcodeMaker to work?
Yes, BarcodeMaker and PatternMaker depend on each other. Please note that
PatternMaker is a free download.
How do I create a Barcode style or preset?
The CS3 version of PatternMaker does feature pattern preset. You can create,
edit and apply pattern presets from the PatternMaker palette. See our
documentation for full details.
In the CS and CS2 versions, the best way to do this is with libraries:
-
Create a barcode and style it as you would like, including all your font
settings, height settings, etc.
-
Drag the barcode to an InDesign library. Name the library item if you
wish.
-
Whenever you want to reuse those settings, just drag the barcode from the
library to your document. It's still a live BarcodeMaker item on your
page, and you can just modify the barcode number while retaining all of your
previous settings.
How do I create a Bookland EAN barcode with BarcodeMaker?
The first step is to download our installer here and
run it. The installer will install BarcodeMaker, PatternMaker and
PatternPack. PatternMaker is a free plug-in, and BarcodeMaker works on
top of PatternMaker.
-
Start InDesign and create a new document.
-
Draw an empty graphic frame.
-
Go to Window > PatternMaker. The PatternMaker palette will appear.
-
Select the graphic frame. The widgets in the PatternMaker palette will
become enabled.
-
In the dropdown list of patterns in PatternMaker, choose "Barcode ISBN" and
click the Apply Pattern button.
-
The default values for the ISBN barcode will appear. Enter your desired
Bookland EAN number into the ISBN field. This number should start with a
978.
-
Enter a five digit suffix into the suffix field. For Bookland EAN, this
is usually a five digit code for the price.
-
You should now have a valid Bookland EAN barcode.
You can now modify various aspects of the barcode, such as what fonts are used,
whether to include text or not, whether we show both 10 and 13 digits numbers,
whether to include whitespace, and so forth. Our documentation describes
the various other parameters available.
Once you have all the parameters set as you desire, you can drag the barcode to
a library and then reuse that barcode as a basis for your future barcodes. Just
drag the item out of your library and the library will be editable by
BarcodeMaker, but all your parameters such as font choice will be preserved.
If you are using the CS3 version, you can create pattern presets and simply
select the preset from the preset dropdown in the PatternMaker palette.
Does BarcodeMaker work with InDesign for mail merge bar coding?
Yes, BarcodeMaker is capable of creating mail merged barcodes, but it does
require a separate Teacup plug-in called DataLinker. DataLinker can link and
merge data in from flat text files or ODBC data sources, and it works with
BarcodeMaker. DataLinker also comes with a walk-through tutorial that shows you
how to create a mail-merged mailing. That walkthrough will install along with
the plug-in.
Can I encode GS1-128 (UCC/EAN 128) or USPS Code-128 using BarcodeMaker?
Yes, because these barcode specifications are based on Code 128. You simply need
to make sure that the correct character set and function codes are at the
beginning of the barcode. See the BarcodeMaker documentation for a full list of
character codes.
GS1-128 (also known as ECC/EAN 128) and USPS Code 128 must be in character set C
and begin with the FNC-1 character. In the PatternMaker palette, begin your
barcode number with ^105^102. For example, to encode the number 123456, you
would enter ^105^102123456.
Please note that this is not a complete description of all the requirements for
these barcodes, just of the character set and function codes needed to precede
the barcode. You will need to make sure that the barcode has the correct
checkdigits, Application Identifiers, and other required elements. BarcodeMaker
does not calculate these for GS1-128 or USPS 128.
I'm trying to apply a Code-128 barcode in character set C, and BarcodeMaker tells me it cannot apply the pattern. Why?
Character set C in code 128 encodes pairs of numbers. Therefore, the number of
digits you input has to be even. If you have an odd number of digits you want
to encode, simply add a zero at the beginning of the number to make it even.
For example, ^10512345 won't be applied, but ^105012345 will work fine and will
scan correctly.
PatternMaker / PatternPack
How do I apply a pattern in PatternMaker?
Follow these steps:
-
Make sure the PatternMaker palette is showing. If it's not, you can show
it by going to Window PatternMaker.
-
Select an empty graphic frame. The widgets on the PatternMaker palette
should become enabled.
-
In the PatternMaker palette, select a pattern from the dropdown list.
-
In the PatternMaker palette, click the "Apply Pattern" button.
The pattern should be applied and the PatternMaker palette should update to show
you a set of controls specific to that pattern that you can then use to modify
the pattern. Included among these will be a control for adjusting the
pattern color.
What is the difference between PatternMaker and PatternPack?
PatternMaker is a free plug-in that brings high-quality PostScript patterns to
InDesign. It comes with three patterns that can be manipulated to your
specifications. PatternPack is an additional 13 patterns to be used in
PatternMaker and can be purchased for $99.
If I use a demo version of PatternPack and BarcodeMaker will the patterns created be valid after the demo has expired?
Once you have installed PatternMaker, it will never expire and you will be free
to use the three included patterns as much as you wish. The other patterns
provided by PatternPack and BarcodeMaker will expire after 20 days and will no
longer appear in the dropdown menu of PatternPack. Any patterns or barcodes you
have created with them will continue to print and be valid EPS objects in
InDesign, but you won't be able to modify them from the PatternMaker palette.
Can I use PatternMaker in Illustrator?
You can't use PatternMaker directly in Illustrator. You can create a
pattern in InDesign and drag it to Illustrator. You can also unembed the
embedded EPS file that are the patterns and then place those into
Illustrator. Once in Illustrator, you can manipulate elements of the
pattern just as you can any other vector graphic.
How do I download the PatternMaker update?
Go to the PatternMaker product page
and click on the "Download Demo" button. That will download the "demo" plug-in,
but in fact the demo function can be unlocked to be the fully functioning
version. If you've already validated the plug-in, it will remain validated when
you copy over the updated plug-in -- there's no need to re-validate.
Can I adjust colors in PatternMaker?
Yes, there are two ways to control colors in a pattern. You can adjust the
color of the containing frame by using the swatches palette in InDesign.
You can also adjust the color of the pattern itself directly on the
PatternMaker palette. You will see a color dropdown widget at the bottom
of the palette for every pattern, and that widget controls the color of the
pattern. For some patterns, such as the dots pattern, you will see two
color dropdown widgets - one for fill and one for stroke. Currently, we
only support CMYK colors for the patterns themselves.
TableStyles/CellStyles
How does Table/CellStyles work with InDesign styles?
The basic concept is having a table style doing for tables what a paragraph
style does for paragraphs, and a cell style doing for cells in a table what a
character style does for text in a paragraph. In other words, after you create
a new cell style, you can double click on that style and change the formatting
as desired, setting the color of the cell, the border, the text insets and so
forth.
Then, once that's done, you can apply the cell style to any cell, and the whole
cell gets formatted with the style all at once, with a single click. You can
also create a style based on a cell or a table, just like character and
paragraph styles.
What you need to remember is that table styles only affect those options
relevant for a whole table, such as table border, alternate fill, and so
forth. Almost anything that can be adjusted in the Table Options dialog
can be affected in a table style, whereas cell styles let you adjust most of
the settings in the cell options dialog.
What is the difference between Table and CellStyles Standard and Pro?
There are three main features the Pro version has that the Standard version does
not:
-
Ability to associate paragraph styles with cell styles
-
Ability to save formatting of imported, linked Excel spreadsheets even after
updating the link
-
Ability to map between XML tags and table and cell styles.
For more details on these features, see the TableStyles and CellStyles Pro
product page
Can I upgrade from Table/CellStyles Standard to Pro?
Yes, the upgrade cost for going from Standard to Pro is $49. Please contact
support@teacupsoftware.com for more information on how to
upgrade. Please email sales@teacupsoftware.com
to upgrade.
How
does Table/CellStyles work with Excel files that have
formulas?
TableStyles and CellStyles Pro will maintain formatting on cells that contain
formulas just as they do on other cells. Cells with formulas are not a
problem.
I
understand that Table/CellStyles can work with Excel created tables,
but how about tables created in InDesign?
TableStyles and CellStyles Pro can be used to style tables created directly in
InDesign. It can also be used to map from XML tags to table or cell
styles when importing a table from XML or exporting to XML.
When
using the Pro version, how can I retain the table format when
updating a linked Excel spreadsheet in InDesign?
First you will need to import the spreadsheets unformatted and do all of your
formatting in InDesign. All table formatting, such as cell shading, borders and
table geometry, will be retained automatically. Formatting of text within
tables will be retained if you format the text using a paragraph style
associated with a cell style. If you format the text directly, either
using overrides or with a style sheet that's not associated with a cell style,
the text formatting will not be kept.
Can
Table and CellStyles control table geometry?
No, Table and CellStyles does not control cell height, column width, or number
of rows and columns. This allows a single style to be used on multiple
tables and cells of different dimensions. So anything that involves the
appearance of a table or cell, the plug-in picks up, but anything that involves
the geometry, it will not.
